Refine Your Search

Occasionally a search for a Person or Organization Profile will not yield the desired results. This means one of two things:

1. The person or organization is listed in our database, but under a slightly different name.

2. The person or organization is not currently listed in our database.

Before assuming that a person or organization is not listed, try the following strategies to refine your search.

If your search is a close but inexact match to a record in the database, you will get a list of possible matches. Check this list first to see if it includes your desired record:

If your search does not match any records at all, or produces records that do not include your desired Profile, try an alternative search using the following search techniques:

Person Profile Searches

1. Double check the spelling of the name. If you are unsure of the spelling of a first or last name, search using the name you are more certain of, and scroll through the results for matches (Note: single name searches may produce several pages of results if the name is common).

2. Search using other possible variations of the person’s first name (i.e. William instead of Bill, or Susan instead of Sue).

3. Remove middle initials or single letters from your search. If a person primarily goes by their middle name (i.e. “R. John Doe”), search for that name in place of a first name.

Organization Profile Searches

1. Double check the spelling of the organization name. If you are unsure about part of the name, search using only the words that are certain.

2. Try to narrow the organization’s name down to one or two keywords in the name, and scan the search results for the organization’s full name.

3. If you are looking for a subsidiary or division of a larger organization, search for the name of the parent organization (i.e. search for The Walt Disney Company to find the listing for ABC, Inc., which is part of the larger Disney listing).

4. Leave out punctuation marks, special characters, prefixes, common words, and suffixes (i.e. search for “coca cola” to find “The Coca-Cola Company” or “Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc.”).

5. Search using full words in the official title of the organization, not acronyms, abbreviations or partial words.

6. Use simple state names to find listings for the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of state governments. For example, a search for “Alabama” will yield results for all three branches of Alabama government:

If you still cannot find the person or organization you are researching, let us know by clicking Feedback at the bottom of the page. If we later add the information you were unable to find, we’ll let you know.
